Mission Bay Park of San Diego travel guide ** inside tips, attractions, and info about Mission Bay Park

San Diego > Recreation > Mission Bay Park

Address:
1010 Santa Clara Place

  Overview

Mission Bay spans 4,600 acres, (of those acres more than half are covered in water), making this park ideal for sports in and on the water. Sandy beaches stretch for 19 of the 27 miles of shoreline that make up the park. On any given day you can see joggers, swimmers, picnickers, rowers, and sailboat and motorboat enthusiasts enjoying the park. In fact, there are jet skis, kayaks, catamarans and other water craft available for rent in the park at places like Mission Bay Sportscenter.

This vast expanse of park is also home to many species of birds, fish, and other animals with a nature reserve near Crown Point. With the absence of any current or surf in the bay, you won't find surfers here. The park is primarily made up of grassy park lands and extensive cement walkways. For the younger set, check out the playground at Tecolote Shores, a favorite spot for physically challenged children and extremely popular with all children.
