Overview
 Located in Balboa
Park, the Reuben H. Fleet Space Center is a great place to spark a child’s interest in astronomy. It features interactive displays, motion simulator rides and various exhibits about space and the teamwork involved with space exploration.
Fleet Center has doubled in size from 44,100 square feet to 93,505 square feet to offer greater capacity for exhibitions, educational programs and special events. Five new interactive exhibit galleries allow guests to get a hands-on experience in their quest for science and technology.
In the Main Exhibit Gallery is the Center’s most recent attraction, ExploraZone. The first in a three-year series, this major exhibition focuses on “unexpected science,” and promises to bring something new to its visitors no matter how many times one might return.
 On the second floor is Technovation, a new permanent, yet evolving exhibition showcasing the science and technology of leading San Diego companies. On the Bridgeway is “SkyScapes,” a collection of celestial photographs by resident Astronomer Dennis Mammana. In the SciTours Gallery, you can blast off on Meteor Storm, the center’s new virtual reality experience.
SciTours is a motion-based simulator attraction that takes 23 passengers on different adventures several times each hour throughout the day. A multi-media presentation provides background data for upcoming missions.
The Fleet Center is home to the world’s first OMNIMAX dome theater, where guests can watch IMAX films on the giant Space Theater screen. The Nierman Challenger Learning Center, formerly located at Parkway Middle School in La Mesa, has now moved to the Fleet center thanks to a generous grant from the Nierman Foundation. The all-new Space Station
Phoenix, Mission Control Center and classrooms transport participants on simulated space voyages. These mission simulations provide cooperative learning experiences that demonstrate the value of a project team approach to scientific discovery.
