Overview
A dedicated group of volunteers founded the San Diego Opera in 1950. For the next fifteen years the fledging San Diego Opera presented visiting opera companies. Not until the mid-sixties did SDO produce their first opera, Puccini's
La Boheme in 1965.
The season runs from January to May during which the SDO presents five fully staged operas and a major orchestral concert presented at the Civic Theater. Free backstage tours are given on Friday evenings before the performances.
