Located in Balboa Park, the Old Globe Theater is a leader in regional repertory theaters. This Tony Award-winning organization produces thirteen works a year, both Shakespearean and contemporary. 2000 was the Old Globe’s 65th anniversary of bringing Broadway-bound theater to San Diego though works as diverse as Henry IV, The Weir and Damn Yankees.

Another leader in regional theater is the San Diego Repertory Theater. Housed in the beautiful Lyceum at Horton Plaza, the company produces six plays per year as well as several annual festivals. 

Located on the campus of the University of California, San Diego and part of the Mandell Weiss Center for the Performing Arts, the La Jolla Playhouse is also one of San Diego’s greatly respected companies. They produce six to eight new and classic plays and musicals throughout the year.

A great source of Information on San Diego's performing arts scene can be found in the San Diego Performing Arts League, a not-for-profit umbrella organization serving more than 130 theatre, music and dance companies and their audiences.
